NITCO is one of 17 internet service providers joining together to form a new statewide fiber network. The companies say the consortium called Hoosier Net will let them "boost capacity, internet access, and reliability" by operating on a statewide scale. It will also be able to take advantage of billions of dollars in grant funds expected through the federal Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment Program.
NITCO President Tom Long said in a statement that he's pleased NITCO is part of Hoosier Net, adding that "Indiana is the Crossroads of America and that includes thousands of miles of fiber infrastructure that is now available to carriers and ISP’s to bring broadband access to Hoosiers.”
NITCO serves more than eight thousand customers in Lake, Porter, Newton and Jasper counties.
