Valparaiso School Superintendent Dr. Jim McCall speaks to the Valparaiso School Board members during their May 19 meeting.

Valparaiso's school superintendent is set to remain with the district for at least three more years. The school board finalized a new contract Tuesday with Superintendent Dr. Jim McCall. It keeps him with Valparaiso Community Schools through June 2025, with the possibility for automatic extensions through June 2030.

"Thank you very much to the board for your continued support and leadership, and I look forward to continuing to work on behalf of the students and community of Valparaiso," McCall told board members.

The contract raises McCall's base salary to $175,000 but also makes him eligible for the same raises and retention stipends given to other administrators in the future.

McCall recently guided Valparaiso Community Schools through a successful referendum renewal, but the district has also faced criticism over last fall's mask mandate and the treatment of a transgender student, among other issues. No objections were raised during the two public hearings on the contract.
