Sixties Actress & Beauty Queen Reflects on Bikinis, Beach Films, Elvis and Her Fabulous Life

The in-studio live guest for this installment of  “A LOOK AT THE ARTS with Tom Lounges” is ARLENE CHARLES — the MISS INDIANA of 1964 who today goes by the name CHARLIE SMITH.   After winning her beauty crown in the Midwest, she went on to do numerous television  and film appearances over the years.  Hit TV shows this 1961 Merrillville High School Graduate appeared on include: “Gunsmoke,” “Flying Nun,” “The Monkees” and “The Wild, Wild West.”

Among the pop culture films of the 1960s in which Charlie has appeared were “BATMAN: The Movie,”“Winter A-Go-Go,” Dr. Goldfoot & The Bikini Machine,” and four classic ELVIS PRESLEY films — “Spin Out,” “Clam Bake,” and “Paradise Hawaiian Style.”  

Having been on camera with the King of Rock ‘N Roll is why Charlie is serving as one of the celebrity judges for the upcoming “Ultimate Elvis Tribute Contest” being held the weekend of October 7-9 at Elvis FANtasy Fest in Portage, Indiana.

Charlie’s connection to celebrity does not stop there.   On this program, she talks about her marriage to the late prize fighting great, JERRY QUARRY, and her later marriage  to MIKE SMITH (vocalist/keyboardist of the DAVE CLARK FIVE).

This program features songs from her late husband’s famous rock bands The Dave Clark Five and his latter day group, Mike Smith’s Rock Engine.
