Times of Northwest Indiana

Today:   We continue our conversations with candidates in the Lake County Nov. 6th general election, with Christian Jorgensen, the Republican Party candidate for Lake County Council District 7.  It's an area in south Lake County that's currently represented by Republican Eldon Strong.   Jorgensen, a St. John resident, faces Democratic Party candidate Phil Kuiper of Lowell.   Later on, IPBS reporter Brandon Smith talks with Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson, who is seeking re-election.

Donna Stuckert of Porter County Recycling and Waste Reduction tells us about an upcoming program that is linked to the Nov. 4th changing-of-the clocks to include not only checking smoke detector batteries -- but replacing old smoke detectors as well.  Donna also brings us up-to-date on the county's composting operations and tells us about a new and innovative  way to recycle those Halloween candy wrappers.

Rich Juram, the president of the Northern Indiana Passenger Rail Association, joins us from his Fort Wayne office to talk about a public meeting, on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in downtown Valparaiso, to inform residents about the latest on the proposed Chicago-Fort Wayne-Columbus (Ohio) high-speed passenger rail service.  The meeting will be held in the second floor of the Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce building at 162 W. Lincolnway.   It is proposed on a route that was once a historic high-speed rail line.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
