Inspiring Teen Is One Step Closer To Opening A Youth Center In Gary

Aaliyah Stewart, a 19 year old Merrillville teen is looking to build a youth center in her native Gary. She is the founder of ASW Foundation, an organization she started following the tragic murders of her two brothers Anthony White, Jr and James Anderson at ages 16 and 20 respectively. “Regionally Speaking” host Chris Nolte recently spoke with her about her goal to raise $50,000 to rehabilitate a building and open the center by this fall.

Lakeshore Public Radio 89.1FM, initially known as The Lakeshore 89.1FM, first hit the airwaves across Northwest Indiana on January 19, 2010. The station was created after the board of directors for Lakeshore Public Media, which also operates our sister station Lakeshore PBS, saw the need for regional access to a public radio station in order to provide localized up-to-the-minute news and information for NW Indiana residents.
