Merrillville High School Offering CNA Program
MERRILLVILLE - Merrillville High School is going to run its own certified nursing assistant program this year. Bob Phelps, director of technology and CTE told the "Times" the program is being made possible with the help of two instructors. It also serves the growing need for health care workers in the community.
The high school has partnered with organizations to provide qualified instructors and curriculum for the past five years.
Moving the program to the high school reduces fees for CNA students and reduces transportation challenges that come with the students going offsite during the school day.
There will be a classroom and lab for the CNA program. There will also be two registered nurses — who each bring more than 10 years of experience working in various healthcare settings — were hired as educators to accommodate the growing number of students in this year's program.
