CHESTERTON - Indiana Dunes National Park is looking for volunteers for it first-ever Indiana Dunes Trash Trekkers Earth Day Cleanup.

Registration is now open.  This year’s cleanup is Thursday, April 22, from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Supervisory Park Ranger and Public Information Officer Bruce Rowe
says volunteers and park employees will work together to collect a winter’s worth of trash and debris.

"Anybody who wants to get outside on April 22nd from 9 a.m. until about noon and clean up the park, the trails, the roads, even the Little Calumet River, we're going to do some cleaning up is welcome to join," Rowe says.

Rowe says there are intrinsic rewards in volunteering.

"I think it's a way to make your park area and Northwest Indiana in general a little bit cleaner, take some pride in having a National Park here and helping to make it as clean as we can," Rowe says.

To be assigned to a cleanup location, register with the park’s volunteer office before Sunday, April 18.  Go to or call 219 221-7098.
