National School Choice Week Seeks To Inform Parents of Choices

Jan 28, 2021

UNDATED - School Choice Week is underway this week.  Shelby Doyle, Director of Communications and External Relations, for National School Choice Week, says they conduct the awareness campaign annually to let parents know they have options in choosing their child's education.

"We love to make sure that parents are just aware of all the different things between open enrollment and traditional public schools, charter schools, magnet schools, online schools, private schools and home schooling, there's a lot for parents to look at on a year to year basis and so we try to raise awareness about what they can choose between," Doyle says.

Doyle says different schools and different types of schools may have a certain focus and may be operated under different rules.  She says her organization ensures inclusivity by offering information on all types of schools and allowing the student and their family to narrow down their choice.  She added that at National School Choice events nationwide, including in Indiana, there is culture of positivity no matter what type of school is chosen for a student.

National School Choice week runs through Saturday, January 30th, but people can obtain information anytime of the year by going to the National School Choice website or by calling 202 480-2927.
