OPHIRA EISENBERG, HOST:

We're playing games with Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Bobby Lopez. Are you ready for another one?

KRISTEN ANDERSON-LOPEZ: Yes.

ROBERT LOPEZ: Yeah.

EISENBERG: It's a speed round.

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: Ooh.

LOPEZ: Ooh.

(LAUGHTER)

JONATHAN COULTON: Appropriate awe.

EISENBERG: It was perfect.

COULTON: It was good.

EISENBERG: So ASK ME ANOTHER premiered on May the 4, 2012, which also happens to be the day the first Avengers movie premiered. Coincidence?

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: Whoa.

COULTON: No, it's not. We're in the Marvel Universe. It's just...

LOPEZ: Yeah.

EISENBERG: That's right. That's right.

COULTON: ...Nobody knows we are. They haven't made our movie yet.

EISENBERG: That's right.

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: With that beard I think you have a good chance, though.

COULTON: Thank you. That's what I'm counting on.

(LAUGHTER)

EISENBERG: That's right. That beard is in the Spiderverse, I think.

(LAUGHTER)

EISENBERG: So nine years have passed since then, and things have happened in those years - so many things. So your speed-round game is called Before or After? It is very simple. We are going to say an event, and you are going to tell us if that event happened before ASK ME ANOTHER's premiere of May the 4, 2012, or after.

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: OK.

EISENBERG: OK, Kristen, you're going to go first.

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: OK.

EISENBERG: Here we go.

(SOUNDBITE OF TICKING)

EISENBERG: The first Apple Watch is released.

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: Before.

(SOUNDBITE OF BUZZ)

EISENBERG: It's after - 2015. Kanye West interrupts Taylor Swift at the VMAs.

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: Before.

EISENBERG: Before.

(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)

EISENBERG: I think that was one of our very first questions. "Game Of Thrones" premieres on HBO.

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: After.

(SOUNDBITE OF BUZZ)

EISENBERG: Before - 2011.

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: Really?

EISENBERG: The dating app Tinder.

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: Before.

(SOUNDBITE OF BUZZ)

EISENBERG: After - September of 2012. Not long after. Not long after.

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: Wow.

EISENBERG: Yeah. It was this show that inspired it.

(LAUGHTER)

EISENBERG: Elena Kagan appointed to the Supreme cork.

COULTON: Did you say cork?

(LAUGHTER)

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: She did just say cork.

EISENBERG: It's the name of my wine store.

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: Oh, wow.

COULTON: Supreme Cork is a great wine store. Yeah.

EISENBERG: We only sell nine wines.

(LAUGHTER)

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: I'm going to say before. I'm going to say before.

(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)

EISENBERG: Before is correct - 2010. Disney World bans selfie sticks.

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: After.

(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)

EISENBERG: After, yes - 2015. Pope Francis becomes head of the Catholic Church.

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: After.

(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)

EISENBERG: After - 2013.

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: Yep, 2013.

EISENBERG: The first flash mob occurs, according to the Guinness World Records.

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: That's got to be before.

(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)

EISENBERG: It is, yeah - 2003. The movie "Despicable Me" foisted Minions upon the world.

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: Before. The - yeah.

(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)

EISENBERG: Before - 2010. And the movie "Frozen" is released in the United States.

(LAUGHTER)

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: That would be after.

(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)

EISENBERG: That is after. OK, you did great. Out of 10, you got seven.

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: All right.

COULTON: All right, Bobby, seven is the score to beat. All these for you - here we go.

LOPEZ: OK.

COULTON: Before or after 2012.

(SOUNDBITE OF TICKING)

COULTON: The Supreme Court rules that same-sex couples have the right to marry.

LOPEZ: I'd say after.

(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)

COULTON: It is after - 2015, yeah.

LOPEZ: Yes.

COULTON: OK, Rebecca Black releases the song "Friday."

LOPEZ: I think that's after.

(SOUNDBITE OF BUZZ)

COULTON: Before - just before 2011. The term dad bod first appears in the Urban Dictionary.

LOPEZ: Before.

(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)

COULTON: 2009, yes.

LOPEZ: Yes.

COULTON: The Whole30 diet.

LOPEZ: I think that's also before.

(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)

COULTON: Yep, 2009.

LOPEZ: Yeah.

COULTON: Also 2009. The bullet journaling trend.

LOPEZ: After.

(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)

COULTON: After is correct - 2013. Season 1 of the podcast "Serial."

LOPEZ: I feel like that's, like, right around the same time. But I'm going to say after.

(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)

COULTON: A little bit after - 2014.

LOPEZ: Yes.

COULTON: NASA's last space shuttle launch.

LOPEZ: I think that was before.

(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)

COULTON: Yeah, right before - 2011. Starbucks starts making their pumpkin spice lattes with actual pumpkins.

LOPEZ: False.

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: They do? False.

(LAUGHTER)

LOPEZ: That sounds like a true-or-false. No, that must be...

COULTON: At some point they did not, and then they started doing it.

LOPEZ: Right, right, right. Let's say that's after.

(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)

COULTON: It is after - 2015. The first statue of a nonfictional woman erected in Central Park.

LOPEZ: Was it before?

(SOUNDBITE OF BUZZ)

COULTON: No. No, after - 2020, a nonfictional woman. I should say the statue in question commemorates the hundredth anniversary of the 19th Amendment, and it's three suffragettes - Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Sojourner Truth. And lastly, "The Book Of Mormon" premieres on Broadway.

LOPEZ: Before.

(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)

COULTON: Before - 2011. That's correct.

LOPEZ: Yeah.

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: All right, so...

EISENBERG: Well done. How - what was the...

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: What's the final score?

EISENBERG: What's the ending score on there?

COULTON: Well, Bobby...

EISENBERG: Whoa.

COULTON: ...You got eight.

LOPEZ: Hey.

COULTON: You just edged out a victory.

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: All right. It's OK.

COULTON: Congratulations or my condolences...

EISENBERG: Well done.

COULTON: ...If you are in trouble.

(LAUGHTER)

EISENBERG: Kristen, Bobby, such a pleasure, as always. And we'll see you at the finale.

ANDERSON-LOPEZ: All right. Bye, you guys. Take care. Thanks again.

LOPEZ: Take care.

COULTON: Take care.
