Globally respected, vibraphonist STEFON HARRIS has taught music at many top institutions; and his group Blackout's latest album "Sonic Creed" was named "#1 Jazz Album of 2018."

The group is the headline attraction at the 34th Annual Valparaiso University Jazz Festival, concluding the weeklong event on Friday, April 6th.   Open the show for Harris & Co. will be Northwest Indiana's own Marco Villarreal and his self-named Quartet.

During this interview with show host Tom Lounges, Stefon Harris explained how he came to music, what music means to him, and shares some unique perspectives on the topic of creating music and the purpose that it serves beyond mere entertainment value."

Harris said he expects his performance at the VU Jazz Fest will include a fair share of selections from his critically acclaimed new album, "Sonic Creed," but that the audience should also expect selections from past albums and maybe something completely fresh.   Harris is not just a world-class musician, composer and bandleader, but also a top educator.  This program also touches on that aspect of his career and his perspective on the teaching of music.
