Today:   Leslie Plesac with Purdue University Northwest's Sinai Forum speaker series joins us with the list of speakers this coming fall -- a list which includes retired General John Kelly, "Sully" Sullenberger, Gloria Steinem and Alan Dershowitz.  The former White House chief of staff is the first speaker on Sept. 8th at the Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City.  All the other speakers will be on the Westville campus.   We also have comments from state Rep.

Today:  We begin our series of conversations with northwest Indiana state legislators with Democratic state Representative Lisa Beck.  This is the Lake County lawmaker's first General Assembly session, having taken over for Republican Julie Olthoff.  She talks about her impression of the Statehouse, the bills she sponsored and how they've fared, and her look at the two-year state budget that she and her colleagues will vote on this month.  We also talk with Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra conductor Kirk Muspratt about May 17th's Pops concert that is just "out of this world."

Indiana Youth Institute

Today:   Tami Silverman, the president and CEO of the Indiana Youth Institute, joins us with a look at the statewide and northwest Indiana data that's contained in this 25th anniversary IYI "Kids Count" Data Book.  The Data Book shows its readers objective, reliable information on the status of Indiana's children and youth.  It offers indicators in the categories of family and community, economic well-being, education and health.  We also have more conversations from the Welcome Project at Valparaiso University.  And IPB News' Rebecca Thiele reports on the reuse of the former Carrie Gosch E
