Today:  Terry Velligan, the general manager for operations at the Cline Avenue bridge construction site, is with us with an update on the near-completion of the bridge that is over the Indiana Harbor and Ship Canal in East Chicago.  The final segment constructed on-site was raised into place earlier this month and the finishing touches are being made to get ready to open the bridge to traffic  in early winter.  CareSource Indiana president Steve Smitherman talks about the non-profit organization's efforts to assist Hoosiers in getting their 2021 health insurance needs met.  And northwest Indiana community activist Ruth Needleman has the latest on local racial and community-police issues.

Kevin Comerford continues his conversation with Terry Velligan - General Manager of Operations and Laura Weber - Communications Specialist for Cline Ave LLC., about the plans for the Cline Avenue bridge.

In part two of this three-part segment on Cline Avenue bridge, Kevin talks with Laura and Terry about an expected completion date as well as their decision to use local contractors and local suppliers to complete the Cline Avenue bridge project.

One of the firms that worked on the pedestrian bridge that collapsed in Florida, killing six people, also is building a bridge in East Chicago.

CBS-2 is reporting that Florida-based FIGG Bridge Group designed the Florida pedestrian bridge that collapsed, and is building the upcoming Cline Avenue bridge replacement.

The new bridge over the Indiana Harbor and Ship Canal will rise 10 stories over the canal when it opens next year,  It replaces a Cline Avenue bridge closed and declared unsafe by INDOT.

East Chicago - The news of a new Cline Avenue bridge has some Northwest Indiana residents happy about the new road, but not happy that it will be a toll road. Lakeshore Public Radio's Steven Lattimore has the story.
