State health officials are urging Hoosiers to get a flu shot this fall. The recommendation is an effort to keep flu numbers low during the coronavirus pandemic.

Seven Indiana schools have closed due to the flu so far. And several others are reporting high absentee rates. But state education officials say there’s no cause for concern.

Indiana Reports First Flu Death

Indiana has reported the first flu-related death of the season. The Marion County Public Health Department confirmed the death occurred there.

On the tail end of one of the worst flu seasons in recent years proper hand-washing was emphasized in a recent experiment at Indiana University Health pathology labs.

Karen Irven, a lab supervisor at IU Health says the message can’t be emphasized enough.
