NORTHWEST INDIANA - Northwest Indiana casinos are once again open after being shut down for three months due to the Coronavirus pandemic and visitors need patience to navigate the new system.

The Region's five gambling facilities opened Monday and visitors were faced with long lines from the road, in the parking garage and at the door, to be in compliance with state-mandated COVID-19 safety policies.

They also were given temperature checks, as required by the Indiana Gaming Commission to identify visitors with a fever, which can be a sign of COVID-19 infection.

School leaders and educators are still figuring out what the state's latest guidance on how to reopen buildings means for them. Many worry about how to pay for some of the changes, and whether or not all of them will be needed – or possible – in different parts of the state.

As the coronavirus shuts down their daily routines, some Americans have expressed the hope that the crisis would at last "bring us together" – or at least restore some sense of a shared national fate.

That is profoundly to be hoped. Public trust is essential in a public health crisis. Beyond that, there would be much to be gained by restoring a sense of national purpose.
