The Bach Institute at Valparaiso University warmly invites you to a performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s St. Matthew Passion on Saturday, February 23, 2019, at 5 p.m. in the Valparaiso University Chapel of the Resurrection, 1600 Chapel Drive, Valparaiso, Ind. This epic musical work, widely recognized as one of the greatest pieces of Western music, creates an emotional connection between the listener and the biblical story of Jesus Christ’s dramatic journey to death through an interlocking of voices and instruments. Bach composed the St. Matthew Passion for a single purpose: to present the familiar Passion story in music during Good Friday vespers services. The Bach Institute most recently performed this work in 2010.
This year’s performance will feature the internationally acclaimed Valparaiso University Chorale, the Leipzig Baroque Orchestra, and the Valparaiso University Bach Orchestra and Choir. Additional featured performers include the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir. The performances will be directed by Christopher M. Cock, director of the Bach Institute at Valparaiso University and conductor of the Valparaiso University Chorale.
Tickets are available now for purchase by visiting valpo.edu/vuca and range in price from $10-40.
