Eight out of Ten School Referenda Passed in Indiana

INDIANA - Eight out of ten school referenda questions passed Tuesday night, meaning increased property taxes for those communities that will support the local schools.

Cannelton City Schools did not post their totals Tuesday night.

The school districts with referenda that passed are: Munster, Lake Station, Westfield, Sheridan, Carmel Clay, Tri-County and West Lafayette.

East Chicago residents voted no to raising taxes to fund local schools.

School districts can ask voters through a ballot referenda process to raise property taxes to help fund their schools. Basically, the ballot question asks voters to pay more in property taxes so the schools have more funding.
