“MIDWEST BEAT WITH TOM LOUNGES”
Musical Guest: SUZY BOGGUSS
Suzy Bogguss is no stranger to National Public Radio, having made numerous appearances on the “A Prairie Home Companion” in recent years. Here she guests on “MIDWEST BEAT with Tom Lounges,” to promote her newest album “Lucky” and her band’s “Swingin’ Little Christmas” tour.
A native of Illinois, Bogguss looks forward to coming back to perform in her native Midwest, as on December 3rd when she performs a fundraiser at the Memorial Opera House in Valparaiso, IN. The event was held to raise funds to help preserve and maintain the historic Civil War era theatre.
During the creative explosion that was country music in the 1990s Suzy sold 4 million records with sparkling radio hits like “Outbound Plane,” “Someday Soon,” “Letting Go” and “Drive South.”
Then in the midst of her country popularity Suzy detoured to make a duets album with the legendary Chet Atkins, a modern swing music album with Ray Benson of Asleep At The Wheel, and an epic album/book project aptly titled, “American Folk Songbook.” Suzy has also recorded two great Christmas albums, from which songs are featured during this program.
Suzy’s latest album — “Lucky” — is a collection of songs written by the legendary Merle Haggard and uniquely interpreted from the female perspective. A few of those tunes are also heard on this program.
You can call her a country singer if you want, but really her country hits are just the beginning when one is talking about an artist as gifted and versatile as Suzy Bogguss.
