Two State Agencies Add New Chief Medical Officers

Aug 7, 2018

Two Indiana agencies named new chief medical officers, or CMOs, to lead efforts to improve the health of Hoosiers.

Dr. Melissa Collier will be joining the Indiana State Department of Health, and Dr. Daniel Rusyniak will join the state Family and Social Services Administration.

Rusyniak is a toxicologist and professor of emergency medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine.  He will continue that work while leading FSSA’s team of medical directors.  State leadership says his public health experience will help guide the social service agency that continues to deal with the addiction crisis.

In a statement FSSA Secretary Jennifer Walthall said his work accomplishments are impressive.

"As is is vision for a path to a healthier future for all Hoosiers," says Walthall.

Collier also has a public health background focused on epidemiology.  She previously worked for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, contributing research on hepatitis and outbreaks.

Collier is a pediatrician, and will lead efforts at ISDH to reduce infant mortality rates and improve the overall health of Hoosiers.
