Some Indiana universities are turning to COVID-19 exit-testing ahead of students leaving campus before Thanksgiving. But while some campuses are offering testing as an option, others are requiring it.

Researchers say extra money from the U.S. government helped many people rise out of poverty, even during the economic crisis caused by the pandemic. But now much of that stimulus is gone and poverty is rising again.

Notre Dame To Host 2020 Presidential Debate

The University of Notre Dame has been selected to host the first presidential debate for the 2020 election. 

Notre Dame President, Rev. John Jenkins, made the announcement this morning after being elected to his fourth 5-year term by the school’s board of trustees.

The University of Notre Dame announced Friday, April 26, that it was awarded a $42.4 million grant from the Lilly Endowment. They’ll use that money to partner with businesses in the South Bend - Elkhart area that promote workforce and economic growth.

Notre Dame to use metal detectors at Notre Dame Stadium

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Metal detectors will be used at all Notre Dame Stadium gates, starting with the 2019 football season.

The new policy begins Sept. 14 at the Irish's first home game.

The South Bend Tribune reports that university officials say the change is part of their commitment to safety and security.

  The University of Notre Dame has been sued over its plans to drop copay free birth control options starting July first. The student group is also suing the Trump Administration.

 

Notre Dame’s birth control coverage has changed several times since the Affordable Care Act mandated it.

A group of organizations filed suit against the Trump Administration and the University of Notre Dame over changes to birth control coverage for students and employees.

A group of students and staff called Irish 4 Reproductive Health are suing because the University will stop offering co-pay free birth control starting July first.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — One of the oldest buildings on the University of Notre Dame campus and one where late former school President Theodore Hesburgh and future football coach Knute Rockne once resided will be demolished next month.

Corby Hall is the traditional home of Congregation of Holy Cross priests who live and work at the university in South Bend.

The University of Notre Dame Women’s basketball are back in the Hoosier State as the 2018 NCCA champions.

 

This is the first National Championship for Notre Dame Women’s Basketball since 2001.
 

It all came down to a single 3-point shot by Notre Dame’s Arike Ogunbowale. Made with a tenth of a second to go, the shot gave the Irish a 61-58 victory over Mississippi State.
 

NCAA denies Notre Dame appeal over academic integrity

The NCAA has denied an appeal by The University of Notre Dame after the school’s football wins in 2012 and 2013 were vacated over academic integrity issues.

 

The 2012 season included the NCAA Championship, though Notre Dame lost in the final.

Researchers at the University of Notre Dame are working on a program with community college students found those who receive mentorship support had a greater chance of completing an associates degree than those who didn’t.

Notre Dame to Pay Taxes on Endowment Under New Bill

Notre Dame is one of 27 universities in the country - and the only one in Indiana - that will have to pay a new tax on endowment income, due to changes included in the federal tax reform bill approved by Congress Wednesday. 

Notre Dame Vice President of Communications Paul Browne says it’s unusual to have a specific group identified for a specific tax.

Employees of the University of Notre Dame will still have access to no cost birth control after the end of the year through a third party provider.

Notre Dame announced last week it would no longer provide coverage to employees. Their health care provider, Meritain Health, announced it will continue to offer the coverage at no cost to plan members.

  Notre Dame students and employees gathered outside of the university’s Administration Building to protest the University’s response to the Trump administration’s rollback of the Obama executive order regarding contraception. Protesters said the university has presented itself in a different light in regards to healthcare.
 

An executive order issued by President Donald Trump on Friday halts entry to the U.S. from seven predominantly Muslim countries, and has left Indiana colleges and universities scrambling to adjust.
